Sully Baby's 100 Day Diet
Published in Paperback by Sullivan Publishing (June, 2002)
Average review score:

Laughing the Pounds AwayHard core dieters may be stunned by this book's format, but I LOVED IT! Dieting should never be taken too seriously and this book conveys the idea that dieting doesn't have to be a painful process. Humorous and smart, Sully Baby has helped me lose 18 pounds in only 73 days.
#1 diet adviceGreat book if your really want to lose weight. It's as easy as 1-2-3! More writers should boil it down to the essence as Mr. Sullivan has done. This book is common sense with a smile!

Eccentric and BroodingI believe that the photographs capture the essence of Savannah. Susan Sully has provided us with a sketchbook of Savannah's mystery and charm. The over the top decorating schemes are perfectly matched to the quirky and brooding characters who inhabit these fabulous southern mansions. Every photograph evoked a glimpse of a place we would all secretly love to share.

beautiful stitchery! This book is an excellent choice for new heirloom sewers. It is all hand worked embroidery and stitching, presented in a way that even a novice will find easy to learn. Charleston Style: Past and Present
Published in Hardcover by Rizzoli (May, 1999)
Average review score:

Rekindles Fond MemoriesSusan Sully's book revived many delightful memories of my recent visit to Charleston. Her evocative prose paired with the beautiful photographs made as much of an impression on me as seeing Charleston's gracious architecture in person. It's not often that such a pretty book is also so well written, but Sully' elegant, beautifully crafted sentences do justice to the photos and the grand old homes themselves. After reading her book I wanted to book a flight back for another visit!
Charleston Captured Splendidly!Susan Sully's Charleston Style splendidly captures the unique beauty of my city. Sully's writing is gorgeous, lush and evocative as many of the homes she shows us. Her thorough research is obvious; then she takes the facts and, with words, weaves a beautifiul gossamer fabric representing one ofAmerica's most beloved cities. As a Charlestonian, I was introduced to places I never knew existed. The detailed photographs, artistic and architectural, complement the text. I bought numerous copies to give to friends who have visited Charleston in reality or in their dreams.
finally, a beautiful book with an intelligent read!Just named one of the ten best books of 1999 about South Carolina by "The Nation," this winner rises above the usual book of stunning photography in the quality of Sully's writing. Her thoughtful and incisive reflections upon a complex city are rendered in delightful, sensual, intelligent prose. All this is compellingly presented in a classic coffee-table stand-out!

The Haider Phenomenon
Published in Hardcover by East European Monographs (15 April, 1997)
Average review score:

Excellent! If you've heard about the Austrian extreme rightist, Joerg Haider, then this is a book that you'd be interested in. It's full of modern political history in Austria. It delves into the fears that many Austrians have whether Haider is the next Hitler by discussing his political strategy.
I used this book when I did a thesis for college.
Sully's Explanation is astonishingSully's book "The Haider Phenomenon" is outstanding. It portrays an exquisite portrait of Jorg Haider's ideas, and the state of Austrain Politics. I couldn't put it down. The Way the book is written makes it interesting. It is Explained so even the "politically-unfamiliar" can comprehend it's ideas. This books is a great read for anyone.
Austria and HaiderSully's book The Haider Phenomenon is most welcome and should be required reading for media pundits and politicians who love one liners and 30 second sound bites. The book is especially important and topical in view of the Freedom party's entry into the Austrian government and the attendant international uproar. Sully presents the complexity of the picture in clear authoritative language. She provides also the context of the original statements by Haider which have given rise to so much negative publicity. The book neither praises nor blames Haider and his Freedom party but just gives the facts. This is a most welcome exception to the propaganda the American public is constantly subjected to. Thank you and congratulations Ms. Sully

Queen Victoria and Thomas Sully
Published in Hardcover by Princeton Univ Pr (15 October, 2000)
Average review score:

Short, and intended for scholars...In general, there is an overall lack of modern scholarship on Thomas Sully, one of the most active American portrait painters of the 19th century. With that in mind, I waited for Carrie Barratt's book with great anticipation. Although this is not a bad book by any stretch, it proves to be somewhat thin. Essentially, the books consists of two parts. Part one is a moderately short (and what appears to be an expanded journal article) essay that chronicles Sully's time in London while awaiting to paint the young Queen Victoria. The second and larger part, is a reproduction of Sully's journal while abroad, which while of great interest to scholars of Sully, it is less than thrilling to the lay reader. While I enjoyed the book and am sure it will come in handy in the course of my Sully studies, it provides little that will be of use to the average art reader.
